The irrigation systems will be developed within eight Mongolian provinces

The Mongolian Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry is working on the irrigated and vegetable agricultural project, which is funded by the Asian Development Bank in 2020-2026. Seven thousand hectares of agricultural farmland will be converted to irrigated crop rotation by modernizing 4 irrigation systems in 18 local owned districts as well as research and educational institutions across 8 provinces.

The government is investing to construct irrigation systems that can irrigate the equivalent of 3,031 hectares within 10 districts in 7 provinces. These include Bayan-Olgii Govi-Altai Zavkhan, Selenge, Tov, Khovd and Khentii. The more than three hundred families of farmers are expected to generate an average of 8,000 tons of vegetables as well as 90,000 tonnes of feed for livestock each year following the introduction of irrigation systems that are engineered.

The amount of crops that are irrigated is expected to increase by 10-12percent, which can help safeguard agricultural output from threats and guarantee stable food supply in the wake changes in climate the effects of drought and warming.
