Fenway Park is of course the base of baseball’s Boston Red Sox. The stadium also has the entire area beyond the sports section. The roof is home to 6,000 pounds of fruit and vegetables by way of the farming. The garden on the roof is named Fenway Farm. In order to maintain the garden, a team of members of an association called Green City Growers arrive to take care of the 5,000 square feet structure.
Chris Grallert, president of Green City Growers, is thrilled with what Green City Growers has managed to accomplish with the garden. Grallert explains how the garden is able to grow everything due the large space it has for growing.
Grallert “Local has not been around for long. The area of Boston in 1920 (in the city of Boston) came in fifth place on the list of America’s top five cities for their value of fruits, crops and vegetables. In addition, all of the towns surrounding Boston included local market stalls and local gardens. The rooftop farm located at Fenway Park is an amazing method of being a component of revitalizing a local food production process.”
