Turkmenistan’s region expands vegetable production with carrot and potato harvests

Vegetable growers in Turkmenistan’s Dashoguz region have completed planting of the autumn carrot crop on 40 hectares. Farmers expect to harvest at least 720 tonnes of carrots during the autumn season.

Carrots are cultivated twice a year in the region. The main planting season took place in spring, when the crop was grown on 730 hectares. These fields have already produced around 180 centners per hectare.

Meanwhile, potato growers in the Garashsyzlyk district have started the main harvesting period. This season, farmers are expected to collect 41,930 tonnes of potatoes from 2,995 hectares.

Production is carried out by local farmers’ associations, private farms and long-term land leaseholders. The N. Andalib farmers’ association planted potatoes on 272 hectares, while the Zehin açary farm allocated almost 630 hectares to the crop.

Alongside harvesting, storage and distribution operations have been organized. Potatoes are supplied to food markets and state storage facilities, with part of the crop placed in refrigerated warehouses to maintain supplies throughout the year.

Dashoguz region also produces significant volumes of other vegetables, including around 25,000 tonnes of tomatoes, more than 9,500 tonnes of cabbage, over 2,000 tonnes of cucumbers, and two onion harvests annually.
