“Demand for persimmons is relatively manageable thus far”

The quantity of Spanish persimmons has been exceeding the demand. “About three weeks in the past, the first fruits were delivered and we now have ample quantities of the fruit and the cost remains lower than the previous year’s. However, the demand is relatively low so far,” says Seckin Yildirim (right) Sales director of OR-PA GmbH, the Munich wholesale market OR-PA GmbH.

They’re now hoping for an increase in the demand for persimmons around the end to the end of month. Yildirim “Although we’ve already stopped selling from the market, we have lots of stone fruit available in the wholesale market like late nectarines, and peaches. The same effect is felt on the promotion of persimmons.” It is clear that the European stone fruit marketing campaign will soon come to the close.

Change in the season of citrus

The citrus season across the Northern Hemisphere is beginning to get underway The fruit trader keeps going. “We currently trade mostly Turkish Interdonato lemons, as in addition to Spanish Mandarins that were early in the variety Oronules. Turkish satsumas should also be added to the assortment, possibly starting in November.” In the meantime, South African citrus fruits are slowly disappearing from the market. “The overseas season was a good one in general. The infamous price hikes from the prior year were not the case this time, and the market was generally good.”

A difficult year to market for Italian grapes

Table grapes are among the racers of the season. “Turkish Sultana” grapes are in the process of being sucked out, but can be found up to mid-November, at the earliest. Italian grapes have been costly and scarce from at the beginning of the year. Since these are two distinct products in the real world The market conditions for Italian grapes has not had any impact on the sales of Sultana. The first products that come from the south hemisphere i.e. coming from Latin America, should actually have arrived. However, this has to do with the supply in Italian grapes. So long as there’s sufficient Italian grapes to go around, there’s no trade between overseas grapes. There were times where Italian items could be sold up until the end of December, according to Yildirim.

In general, the mood at the wholesale market in town is quite sombre, he stated. “It is definitely too still for this time of this time of the year.” Yildirim says.
