The latest technology cleans food items that are already packaged and palletized

A lot of produce products, such as blueberries, strawberries, raspberries etc. can’t be washed, and they are stored in the fields. “This presents a serious risk of danger to the safety of products,” says Helmut Leili using Flavour Shield. “After several years of rigorous research and tests We have created an approach to clean fresh fruit and vegetables following they’ve been packaged and palletized. The process took over 10 years to develop the system and more than 10,000 experiments” Leili shared. “We have become the only business in the world which provides this kind of technology.”

Ozone is a natural antioxidant (disinfectant) that totally reverts to oxygen. “It does not leave any residues, and greatly reduces pathogens that are found in vegetables and fruits and makes them safe for consumption,” said Leili.

Shelf-life extension

Apart from being able to clean and provide an unharmed product, the process also increases the shelf-life. Alongside being able to use the technology on berries, it can be utilized to other varieties of fruits and vegetables, like peaches, avocados, grapes or pears. “The enhancement in shelf-life is substantial on every product that have been tested. This results in an increase of 30 % to 50. This is crucial as the time of shipping and delays could create an environment where enhancement of shelf life can mean the difference between food being of good quality and products going to waste. Combining the reduction of pathogens, and prolonging shelf-life will reduce production shrinkage by up to 50.”

The process uses oxygen as the main cleanser, and is paired by a unique procedure that permits for a thorough penetration of the master pallets of the bulk item. Utilizing ozone for food items as a method has been accepted by the FDA from 2001.

“Our goal is to boost the consumption of healthy, naturally nutritious perishable food products while at while growing the value as well as security stream that flows through every aspect of the supply chain for food,” Leili finished.

Flavour Shield will be available to talk about this innovative technology during Fruit Logistica in Berlin between February 7-9. Meet the company at Hall 3.2 in booth A-41-B.
