The avocados are affluent and illegal, they’re at UAE supermarket shelves

Concerned stakeholders have raised concerns about reports of illegal avocado exports coming from Kenya getting into grocery stores across cities within the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which includes Dubai.

The Avocado Society of Kenya (ASK) has reported that unscrupulous sellers have been transporting avocados in a state of immaturity disguised as mangoes to the UAE to circumvent an interdiction imposed by the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) in November.

ASK has sent a message to UAE supermarkets to ask the retailers to immediately remove illegal avocados off their shelves. ASK has stressed the fact that any avocado intended to be consumed should possess a dry matter minimum of 24 percent. The society warns that the avocados sold in UAE stores are in danger from rotting because of the increase in humidity.
