OptiCor creating a new benchmark in the efficiency of coring iceberg lettuce

Sormac announces the launch of the OptiCor 60, which combines the latest technology in vision, precision and speed in order to offer the most effective solution to coring iceberg lettuce.

The OptiCor raises the bar for coring

“The OptiCor is unique in that the coring mechanism is situated beneath the device. It guarantees 100% separate product from the waste stream” claims Jeroen Thijssen. R&D manager at Sormac. “To achieve this we’ve created a targeted device that includes cameras. With the help of a monitor, operators can easily position the crop to the desired tolerance limit. The head then gets cut into four, two or 8 pieces”.

Effective and efficient

The OptiCor can process up to 60 heads each minute using a single operator. It determines if the center of the crop has been centred accurately using image analysis. offering an immediate information to the user through an intelligent HMI prior to moving into the coring station. There, each crop is completely cored according to its unique characteristic.

As the core is sucked from its bottom, any chance of it that could result in a poor product can be completely eliminated. “Together with our group of engineers in software, we created an instrument that adjusts the coring depth as effectively as is possible. The machine can produce a rate of more than 90 percent”.

Based on Sormac standards

We are committed to constantly striving to improve our performance for fresh salad, and vegetable processing. We achieve this by striving for excellence at every level, we can ultimately provide the best machine for our clients.
