Bangladesh expands fresh produce exports to UK and Asia

ShopUp has expanded exports of agricultural products to international markets, including Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates.

The company recently completed exports of 300 tons of rice to Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom, meeting quality, compliance, and logistics requirements in both markets.

According to the company, the ability to supply these destinations, which include large South Asian diaspora populations and quality-focused consumers, reflects ShopUp’s operational and regulatory capabilities across multiple export markets.

ShopUp has also expanded into fresh vegetables and seasonal fruit exports. The category requires tighter sourcing coordination, faster logistics, and supply chain management compared with dry food staples.

The company is also expanding its export pipeline into additional Bangladeshi food categories, including mustard oil, puffed rice, and other dry food staples, as part of efforts to strengthen Bangladesh’s position in international food markets.

Ataur Rahim, CEO of ShopUp Bangladesh, said Bangladesh produces more agricultural products than are currently visible in international markets. He stated that the company’s objective is to build export infrastructure capable of supporting larger-scale international distribution of Bangladeshi food products.

“Rice and fresh produce are the starting point, but over time we believe Bangladesh can become a much stronger food export player across multiple categories,” Rahim said.

According to the company, the export expansion comes as Bangladesh seeks greater export diversification. The ready-made garment sector currently accounts for more than 80 per cent of the country’s merchandise exports.

Bangladesh’s Export Policy 2024-2027 identifies agricultural and processed food exports as growth sectors as the country pursues broader export diversification objectives.
