Argentinian apples, pears, and quinces make up 4.5% of Q1 container exports

Argentina recorded a trade surplus of US$2.711 billion in April, according to the Argentine Trade Exchange report from Indec. It was the country’s 29th consecutive monthly trade surplus.

Exports reached a record US$8.914 billion during the month, up 33.6 per cent year-on-year. The increase was driven by a 20.6 per cent rise in export volumes and a 10.8 per cent increase in prices.

Primary products exports increased 25 per cent, while manufactured goods of agricultural origin rose 14.1 per cent.

According to data compiled by Datamar, apples, pears, and quinces accounted for 4.5 per cent of Argentina’s top containerised exports during the first quarter of 2026.

Consultancy Abeceb said Argentina’s export growth this year is being supported by higher agricultural output and stronger export activity. The consultancy estimates total exports could reach US$100 billion in 2026, with a projected trade surplus of nearly US$20 billion.

In the first four months of 2026, Argentine exports totalled US$30.82 billion, an increase of 21.5 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Imports during the same period reached US$22.543 billion, down 6.4 per cent year-on-year, resulting in a trade surplus of US$8.277 billion.

According to Diego Coatz, executive director of Industry and Development, exports from the agricultural sector continued to post strong results.

“These are very positive figures for foreign trade, with April exports reaching almost US$9 billion. The entire primary complex and agricultural manufactures are showing very strong numbers,” he said.

Argentina’s exports to Brazil increased during the period, although the bilateral trade balance remained negative by US$177 million.

China more than doubled its purchases from Argentina, while the European Union and the United States remained among Argentina’s main trading partners.
