A major shortage of the kiwi fruit in the French market

However, this year’s conditions have caused significant impact on the production of kiwis which is indicating a very dark and gloomy season. “One certainty is that we’ll be severely penalized over the next few months,” explains Tony Saglietto as the director-general for Peruzzo Group. Peruzzo Group. “The areas that produce have seen unprecedented rainfalls,” explains Tony Saglietto in reference to the flooding that have hit Emilia-Romagna. “Italy has lost more than 40% of its output and the damages are such that kiwi trees have lost their fruit. Two major cooperatives within the region suffered severe damage and submerged for a period of 10 day.” Chile is also facing a shortage in Kiwi fruit because of the climate.

Greek fruit kiwi that is on shelves?

The French production is very good this year, however Spain has experienced a loss of 20% of its output. “Everyone will turn towards Greece and, in particular Italy where there is the most losses. The prices will be expensive.” In the meantime it is, the firm will continue to provide steady supplies but it will “not be able to service more customers.”

Peruzzo Group Peruzzo Group is expanding its selection of varieties with the introduction of new the red and yellow kiwis which are currently being grown throughout the Gard region in France. It is planned for 2026 to launch marketing.
