Southern Hemisphere doors open for French stone fruit breeder

The 21st June was the day that COT International, a French breeder with its headquarters in Bouillargues (Gard, France) has signed an agreement with Eternal Fresh, an Australian group Eternal Fresh, that is notably the representative of the Stone Fruit brand “The The Chosen Ones(r)’. The agreement will open the door to the southern the hemisphere for Cot in its efforts to create COT International varieties across Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Chile.

This agreement can be called historic for the France founded company which has celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. In the case of Eternal Fresh, the choice was made on the spot during the COT’s and creation orchards earlier in the year. The exporters and producers of these fruit fell under the spell of the variety that were created by Marie Laure Eteve.

Cot International committed to Eternal Fresh for their successful marketing plan to market distinctive IP varieties using The Chosen Ones(r) label that focuses on the highest-priced customers in Asia. This strategy of marketing is backed by programs of research and development that assist the producers and staff located in the countries of production, along with the in-market personnel in major Asian markets.

The delicious qualities of their bicoloured varieties of apricots, such as Delicot cov, however above all, the quality that are present in their Rougecot(r) as well as the Vanilla(r) kinds have enthused the most demanding of their partners. They are also known for their high-quality fruits in China and especially the queen Garnet(r) the plum.

COT International is already present in over 17 countries within the northern hemisphere however, for now it has only been in the test phase in a few countries of the southern part of the hemisphere. With this arrangement between the two companies “the growth of COT international is set to accelerate. This is recognition of our research we’ve done for nearly thirty years now,” says Marie Laure Eteve who is the COT’s managing Director who is responsible for the hybridization program.

“Most of the produce in these regions is expected to be shipped to China which is Eternal Fresh’s primary client. It will be only with customers who seek the best quality fruits with extremely high levels of sugar like those they’ve seen on COT International variety,” explains Pascal Bassols Pot COT’s Sales and Technical Manager. First significant harvest is anticipated to begin in 2025 for China’s Asian market.
