About 1 in 4 U.S. fresh-market apples in utilized production have been exported since the mid-2000s. The exported portion of utilized production has ranged from 20 to 30 percent annually, representing steady international demand for fresh U.S. apples.
According to the most recent data for the 2025/26 marketing year (completed July 2026), U.S. fresh apple exports totaled 1.87 billion pounds, or roughly 26 percent of the 7.3 billion pounds of fresh utilized production. The value of U.S. apple exports reached a record high of $1.16 billion for the marketing year.
Mexico and Canada were the leading destinations, accounting for 39 percent and 18 percent of U.S. export volume, respectively. Taiwan, Vietnam, the Dominican Republic, and India followed as key destinations, each exhibiting distinct varietal preferences.
For example, export shipment data reported by the Washington State Department of Agriculture indicate that shipments to Taiwan were predominantly Fuji apples, while shipments to Vietnam consisted mostly of Cosmic Crisp, Gala, and Envy apples. India’s shipments were largely comprised of Red Delicious apples.
On the global market, the United States is the third-largest exporter, second to the European Union and China.
