The potato plantation is beginning in a few areas of Great Lakes

Black Gold Farms grows potatoes across eight states in order to supply chipping. The potato plantation is currently beginning in some regions of the Great Lakes. Director of Operations for the Midwest for Black Gold Farms, Keith Tinsey said that planting starts will begin this morning on their farm in the Northcentral Indiana region. “We’re striving to be able to supply an earlier market due to price or the demands of potato chip factories to supply and the potato can withstand frigid temperatures so long as the seed isn’t frozen,” he explains.

The farm also planted in Michigan last year however Tinsey states that it’s somewhat wet “The seed could not sprout right away however we’ve got a large number of land to cover, and, with the recent rains in Michigan it could be a problem. We will take advantage of every chance that the sun shines to work for a hard.”

Tinsey claims that the season of planting typically ends before May 1st.
