The Port of Los Angeles cargo volume increased during August.

The Port of Los Angeles moved 828,016 Twenty-Foot equivalent Units (TEUs) during August, which was an increase of 3 percent when compared with the same time the previous year. This was the first month-long increase year-over-year in thirteen months.

“August was a very successful month that saw growth both in the export and import aspects of our operations,” Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka told journalists at the media briefing. “Overall world trade has slowed this year, and we’re expecting this trend to persist over the next few months. Operatingly, Los Angeles stands ready and has the capacity in place to expand according to the increasing demand.”

Seroka added that the recent approval of the agreement for six years signed with The International Longshore and Warehouse Union as well as Pacific Maritime Association Pacific Maritime Association restores stability and trust to the customers when they decide the best place to transport their goods.

“With the current contract that runs until 2028, you will be able to remain reliant on our longshore employees as well as terminal operators to keep shipping moving in the country’s most crowded port.” Seroka said. “When we’re operating at full speed, as the moment and there’s no better option to transport cargo then the Port in Los Angeles.”

Imports loaded in August 2023 landed at 433,224 TEUs. This is up 7% when compared with the previous year. The loaded exports totaled 124,988 TEUs. This is an increase by 22% over 2022.
