After having introduced social audits and water audits for the first time in this sector, Nature’s Pride now is one of the first companies to try out the brand new Biodiversity addition beyond Europe. The farm-level audit that was developed by Lidl as well as GLOBAL.G.A.P. . at FoodPLUS GmbH, that helps growers to demonstrate their management of biodiversity practices for traders and retailers.

“To assure that our thousands of customers who are part of our company can utilize their skills and have healthy meals and a healthy lifestyle, we adopt a progressive approach to our commitment to taking care of people as well as the environment. When we work together with the rest of the ecosystem, we will remain committed to making a impact. I’m so proud of the fact of the fact that Nature’s Pride, together with our passionate growers have implemented this innovative and more scalable method to map the practices of managing biodiversity on farms,” says Adrielle Dankier the Chief Executive Officer at Nature’s Pride.

“Biodiversity is among the most valuable resources in the world. Protection, restoration and improvement of farm biodiversity are under increased scrutiny all over the value chain and has become a primary issue for brands both retailers and customers alike. It provides a viable and affordable way for farmers to establish and implement farming practices that are best practice at the level of the farmer and aid in the sustainable development of and surrounding ecosystems’ Elme Coetzer Boersma, the Director General of GLOBALG.A.P. GLOBALG.A.P. FoodPLUS GmbH.

Five farms of the growers Unlimited Group and ZZ2 in South Africa successfully piloted the BioDiversity extension. In the course of Fruit Logistica, growers were given a statuette of a butterfly by Nature’s Pride as a token of appreciation for their work to preserve biodiversity.

“More than two decades ago, ZZ2 took the initiative to stay away from conventional farming and towards cultivating in harmony with nature. We’ve put a lot of time and effort in our “Natuurboerdery” concept and now ZZ2 utilizes a range of methods to improve biodiversity on and around our farms. We’re thrilled to confirm and document in writing these practices as part of the trial with Nature’s pride”, said Clive Garrett, Marketing Manager at ZZ2.
