“Our diverse Australian production enables us year-round supply across our key vegetable categories”

Harvest Moon has been supplying vegetables to Asian markets for more than 35 years, with their commercial Snackables export program commencing in 2024. This long history in the region has given them strong market knowledge and established relationships to help grow the Snackables brand.

“This year we are bringing the world’s largest Snackable Carrot display and over 2,000 giveaways of Harvest Moon’s Snackables Carrots. We also have a temporary tattoo station this year featuring 6,000 fun versions of our Snackables Koala mascot,” said Ben Meadows from Harvest Moon.

“Our main Snackables markets include Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong. Japan is an emerging opportunity for the brand, and we have already successfully shipped Snackables there by sea freight as we explore opportunities to further develop the market.”

As well as carrots, the Snackables range also includes radish, grape tomatoes and cucumbers, all of which are exported to Asian markets,

“Snackables are a single-serve, no-waste, convenient and healthy option that fits well with the way consumers are increasingly shopping and eating. Their compact format works particularly well across smaller-format supermarkets, convenience outlets and e-commerce channels, while their ready-to-eat format makes healthy snacking simple.”

Other vegetables
“Our export vegetables are sold under the Harvest Moon brand, giving customers a consistent and recognisable Australian brand across our product range. Our three largest vegetable lines into Asia are onions, carrots and broccoli.”

Across the export business, Harvest Moon ships approximately 400 sea-freight containers each year, along with more than 1,200 air-freight PMCs. Harvest Moon supplies customers 52 weeks of the year, using their growing regions across Australia to follow the seasons and maintain continuity of supply.

“We supply our Asian customers throughout the year. The individual product mix changes with the growing seasons, but our diverse Australian production footprint enables us to maintain year-round supply across our key vegetable categories.

Growing demand
“The Harvest Moon brand is well established in Asia, and we continue to see significant year-on-year volume growth across our key lines. The region remains an important growth market for us as we continue developing existing customer relationships and opening opportunities in new channels and markets,” explains Ben.

“Australian produce has built a strong reputation for quality, consistency and reliability. Tasmanian produce is particularly well placed during the Australian summer, when our cooler growing conditions allow us to consistently supply high-quality vegetables at a time when other growing regions can be challenged by heat.

“For Harvest Moon, having production across multiple Australian regions also gives our customers confidence in our ability to provide consistent supply and quality throughout the year.

Tasmanian onions
Tasmania’s cool temperate climate and fertile red volcanic soils provide excellent conditions for growing onions. Cooler temperatures allow the crop to develop slowly and steadily, helping produce firm, dense bulbs with great flavour and that distinctive heavy feel for their size.

“Tasmania’s summer growing conditions also allow us to produce high-quality onions during a key supply window for our export customers. Harvest Moon breeds its own onion genetics, allowing us to select varieties specifically for the characteristics our growers and customers value.

“Our varieties are bred to produce uniform shape, firm skins and strong, deep red and brown colours, delivering the consistent appearance and quality expected from the Harvest Moon brand.”
