Digital platform improves fresh produce shipment tracking

FairFruit is a vertically integrated company. It grows, packs, and exports premium fresh vegetables from Peru, Guatemala, Ethiopia and fresh organic mangoes from Burkina Faso, working hand in hand with the farmers and their families in origin.

For Grace, Supply Chain and Logistics Officer at FairFruit Belgium, coordinating shipments involves planning loadings, preparing documentation, and managing deliveries. Previously, obtaining shipment updates required repeated calls and emails to logistics providers.

“I found the communication was the biggest issue. Before, we had to chase the information. That always takes a lot of time. You call, you send emails, you wait on the answers.”

Tracking containers also required checking individual shipping line websites, sometimes for up to ten containers during peak season. Delays in receiving information affected FairFruit’s ability to update customers.

In 2025, FairFruit began working with logistics provider Shypple, introducing a centralised platform for shipment tracking, documentation and delivery coordination.

“Now I can check any time I need to. I don’t have to rely on someone to give me the answer. If I want to check something at 8:00 in the morning, but my logistics partner hasn’t started work yet, that used to be a delay. Not anymore,” Grace explains.

The platform consolidates shipping documents, collection references and delivery schedules, reducing the need for email exchanges.

“The moment I realised Shypple was going to be beneficial was when I saw how many emails I was going to save every day. I reckon I save up to ten emails a day. For all the back and forth of organising a delivery, it’s a joy not to have to do that.”

During one shipment, a container was held for a customs scan at the port. Communication with Shypple enabled delivery before the weekend, avoiding detention charges.

FairFruit also uses Shypple’s in-house customs team for shipments entering the UK and EU. Customers receive shipment updates earlier, allowing them to plan deliveries.

The company’s sustainability team uses the platform to record CO2 emissions as part of its environmental policies.

“The impact of Shypple on our logistics has been clarity. I know where the information is. I know when it will be there. And I know I can get a quick response if I need one,” Grace concludes.
