“We design modular grow rooms that can be up and running in under 12 weeks”

Founded in 2016 and rebranded in 2021, Box4Grow is a U.S.-based manufacturer of modular grow environments designed to fast-track indoor cultivation. Based in New York, the company began with container retrofits and has since expanded into scalable panel rooms and full facility fit-outs. To date, it has delivered more than 200 grow systems across North America.

“We design modular grow rooms that can be delivered and up and running in under 12 weeks,” says Greg Payne, Founder of Box4Grow. “Whether it’s a standalone grow room or a multi-room facility, we help you get growing faster and for less cost.”

Designed for fast deployment and long-term growth
Box4Grow offers growing systems built from standard shipping containers as well as panel-based modular rooms. Units can be linked, expanded, or relocated, and are typically outfitted with climate control, lighting, airflow management, and fertigation systems. Customers often start with one to three boxes and scale up as needed.

“We recommend a modular system that can scale with your business,” says Payne. “Modulars can be connected to make bigger rooms or joined through hallways. Depending on licensing, compliance, and budget, it can be a small footprint to start and grow from there.”

Most customers receive their systems within eight to twelve weeks of order. Box4Grow’s units are prefabricated and arrive pre-wired and plumbed, requiring only basic onsite connection to power and utilities. For each sale, Box4Grow plants ten trees through its partnership with Ecologi. “It’s a small way to give back and offset what we’re building,” Payne says.

Cannabis-led, but expanding crop interest
While the majority of Box4Grow’s clients operate in the cannabis sector, the company is seeing increasing demand from leafy greens and wheatgrass producers. Systems are used in warehouse retrofits, pilot farms, research sites, and rooftop installations.

“Our rooms are suitable for cannabis and leafy greens, and we have also built them for growers of wheatgrass,” Payne says. “We’re starting to see more interest from other indoor-suitable crops as well.”

Each project is fully customizable. The company works directly with clients to configure lighting layouts, HVAC capacity, CO₂ injection, and benching systems tailored to crop type, yield goals, and workflow.

Simplified siting and streamlined financing
Box4Grow classifies its systems as movable equipment rather than permanent infrastructure. In many jurisdictions, that means building permits may not be required, although the company advises all clients to confirm local regulations for ventilation, odor control, and fire safety.

To support access and flexibility, Box4Grow offers its own four-month line of credit to help buyers manage costs. Equipment leasing and insurance services are also available through external partners.

Customer feedback and real-world builds
Each Box4Grow unit is constructed with food-safe materials and designed for commercial indoor production. The 40-foot cannabis flower room supports dozens to hundreds of plants, depending on pot size and configuration. Vegetative and cloning rooms can accommodate several thousand starter plants. Systems are fully climate-controlled and operate on standard U.S. electrical service.

Growers cite Box4Grow’s customer support, short timelines, and flexibility as key advantages. “The feedback is mainly that we are responsive and price conscious and also deliver a first-class service and product,” says Payne.

One installation in New York’s Hudson Valley features four Box4Grow units operating as a micro-farm. “Greg and his crew were very helpful and quick in responding to all my questions,” said chef-farmer Danny Amend, who launched the Far Out Container Farm as part of a restaurant supply initiative.

A full-facility offering in 2026
Box4Grow plans to expand in the year ahead. “In 2026, we’ll be offering more than just modular and container solutions,” says Payne. “We’re moving into full greenhouse fitouts and complete turnkey facilities that will only require us to assemble onsite.”

The new product line will combine Box4Grow’s plug-and-play approach with integrated greenhouse infrastructure and enclosed production zones, allowing growers to scale operations without building from scratch.
