“This year, we’re expanding the availability of Crunchino”

Last year, FV Seleqt introduced the Crunchino pointed pepper to a trio of retailers in Germany, Finland, and Sweden. “This year, for the first time, we will also offer this unique pointed pepper to other customers, so that everyone can enjoy this special product,” says Product Manager Norman van Domburg.

Available in three colours, olive green, purple brown, and orange, the Crunchino will be marketed under the Eminent brand. “If customers prefer a specific colour, they can order it separately, but visually, the combination is so attractive that it usually sells as a mix,” says the product manager. “This year, we are growing Crunchino with Marcel Kester of Red Energie. The acreage has remained about the same, but thanks to strong production this season, we have slightly more volume available.”

“At the three retailers, we established a solid foundation with Crunchino last year. We’re becoming more familiar with the variety, which is why we felt the time was right to introduce it more widely under the Eminent brand. Crunchino will be available throughout the Dutch season, from week 14 to week 45. Since the pepper shelf offers less variety than, say, tomatoes, this is a great addition to a relatively narrow category.”

According to Norman, the biggest challenge is communicating the usage occasions and helping consumers discover that the flavour is truly superior to that of regular pointed peppers. “It’s not a standard pointed pepper. With its thin skin and crisp bite, Crunchino offers a completely different experience. Its uses are very versatile: Ideal for salads, as a snack, and also great for grilling. People who have tried it tend to keep buying it.”
