Thailand Post to help orchard owners distribute over 3,000 tons of free fruit after border slowdown

In response to the oversupply of fruit triggered by Cambodia’s slowing imports at the Thai-Cambodian border, Thailand’s government has activated Thailand Post to help orchard owners distribute over 3,000 tons of fruit free of charge nationwide, reports Thansettakij.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Anukul Prueksanusak stated that the Ministry of Commerce, through the Department of Internal Trade, is working to prevent falling prices and unsold stock. Popular Thai fruits, including durian, mangosteen, longan, longkong, rambutan, and mango, will be distributed nationwide using Thailand Post’s logistics network.

The initiative will leverage online distribution channels, allowing farmers to reach consumers directly and quickly. To support the effort, the government has prepared 238,000 specially designed DIT boxes and baskets for packaging, which farmers can collect for free from provincial commercial offices.

By absorbing transportation and packaging costs, the government aims to protect farm incomes during the late-season harvest while mitigating market disruptions caused by the ongoing border trade issues with Cambodia.
