The Ministry of Agriculture of Taiwan collaborates with retail chains in Taiwan to counteract cabbage supply disruptions caused by Typhoon Danas. Typhoon Danas impacted farms in central and southern Taiwan, leading to steps by the Ministry’s Agriculture and Food Agency to stabilize cabbage prices and supply.
The agency, collaborating with farmers’ organizations, aims to manage refrigerated vegetable inventories. In addition, partnerships with 1,581 supermarket and hypermarket branches nationwide have established cabbage promotion zones. The zones offer cabbages at a maximum of NT$90 per head.
This initiative, launched last Saturday, continues until next Sunday across several retail chains: PX Mart, RT-Mart, Carrefour, and A.mart. The typhoon primarily affected areas south of Changhua County, leaving highland-grown cabbages and facility-grown vegetables in northern Taiwan unaffected.
The agency assures stable supplies of vegetables, including leafy greens from Taoyuan, highland cabbages, sprouts, root vegetables, and mushrooms. The ample cabbage inventory from the winter harvest and stable international shipping conditions facilitate imports to meet domestic demand.
Weather stabilization in agricultural areas has enabled farmers to prepare for replanting in affected regions. The supply of leafy greens and gourds is expected to recover by early next month.
