Russia imported 4,600 tons of lemons from Morocco between January and September 2026, six times the volume recorded during the same period in 2025, according to Rosselkhoznadzor data published by the Russian Ministry of Transport on October 29.
The increase followed several phytosanitary inspections that resulted in shipment rejections. On March 30, authorities in Saint Petersburg refused entry to 48.4 tons of Moroccan lemons and oranges due to discrepancies in phytosanitary certificates and packaging information.
Earlier, another shipment containing 18.7 tons of Moroccan mandarins was rejected after inspectors detected a harmful insect.
Despite these incidents, Morocco exported 47,200 tons of agricultural products subject to Russian phytosanitary inspections during the first nine months of 2026.
South Africa remained Russia’s largest African lemon supplier, delivering 58,400 tons, an increase of 46 per cent. Egyptian lemon shipments reached 11,300 tons, up 39.3 per cent.
Russian imports of Moroccan blueberries also increased by 11.7 per cent, reaching 1,500 tons between January and September 2026.
