A consignment of three tons of fresh mangoes from Bangladesh reached Hunan Province, China, entering via Changsha Huanghua International Airport. This marks the inaugural instance of Bangladeshi mangoes entering the Chinese market. Customs protocols were executed, involving the verification of shipping labels and phytosanitary certificates, alongside an on-site evaluation of packaging integrity and fruit condition. The consignment was approved with no irregularities detected.
These mangoes, classified as a Bangladeshi geographical indication product, will be distributed across China through multiple channels, including e-commerce, supermarkets, and fresh produce chains. Traditionally directed towards the Middle East and the EU, the exporter now plans an annual export volume exceeding 100 tons to China, facilitated by Hunan BabaiLi Holding Group.
Following the 2024 approval of fresh mango imports from Bangladesh, China’s Changsha Customs streamlined the process with comprehensive support ranging from policy advisories to quarantine endorsements. The “fresh express” team expedited inspections, implementing a tailored clearance protocol.
Bangladesh’s Department of Agriculture Extension projects a mango output of approximately 2.7 million tons by 2025, with exports targeted at about 5,000 tons. The Chapainawabganj region, labeled the “mango capital,” is renowned for producing quality, chemical-free mangoes, increasingly adopting Chinese bagging techniques.
China’s fruit trade has shown consistent growth, registering fruit exports worth $8.54 billion and imports amounting to $19.45 billion. Recognizing 50 years of diplomatic relations, China continues to serve as Bangladesh’s largest trading ally.
