Gujarat as well as DP World sign agreements to improve logistical support within the state

DP World has signed multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in the amount of INR 250 billion (approx. $3 billion) together with India’s Government of Gujarat, covering the construction of new terminals, ports and economic zones increasing its support for the growth of trade in an Indian state.

The two were in the company of His Majesty Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan the President of UAE as well as Narendra Modi PM of India, DP World Group Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, met to sign MoUs regarding potential investment opportunities in Gujarat along with M K Das, the Additional Chief Secretary of Gujarat. The MoUs showcase Gujarat’s strength in the role of a role model for growth and development for the nation, while harnessing the logistics infrastructure and maritime infrastructure.

The MoUs. highlight DP World’s commitment to facilitate trade within Gujarat by establishing:

  • Multi-purpose deep-draft ports are located in South Gujarat and around the west coastline of Gujarat toward Kutch,
  • Special Economic Zones Jamnagar Kutch and Kutch,
  • Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals (GCT) as well as Private Freight Stations located at Dahej, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bedi and Morbi

DP World has also signed an MoU together with Gujarat Maritime Board in order to explore opportunities for the development of more ports on the coast of Gujarat.

The current investments of DP World of Gujarat comprise containers at Mundra as well as railroad-connected private freight terminals in Ahmedabad as well as Hazira. These are complemented by cold storage facilities located in Surat and Bharuch and Bharuch, as well as freight forwarding offices located in Ahmedabad and Gandhidham as well as express cargo services throughout Gujarat. Furthermore, DP World ensures global connectivity to businesses operating within the region through regular coastal service on a weekly basis through the DP World Unifeeder Group, linking Mundra, Kandla, and Hazira ports with a variety of international ports. The company has recently announced an all-new planned Rail Freight Service, ‘SARAL which connects traders from southern Gujarat including Surat, Vapi, Valsad Vadodara, Bharuch, Ankleshwar to the market within and around the North Capital Region (NCR).

The 25th August of 2023 was the date that DP World signed a $510 million concession agreement with Deendayal Port Authority to develop operating and maintaining an entirely brand new 2.19 million TEU a year mega-container terminal in Tuna-Tekra located in Kandla. At the time of its opening, this greenfield terminal will feature top of the line equipment as well as a 1,100m terminal that can handle next-generation vessels that can carry over 18,000 TEUs.
