“We’re finding solutions to maintain quality and yield despite climate challenges”

“The use of pre-stressed concrete (PSC) poles in India’s agricultural sector has risen steadily in recent years, particularly in high-density apple, cherry, and kiwi plantations,” says Uzair Javeed, Chief Operating Officer at FruitMaster Agro Fresh. “The success of high-density fruit cultivation has created the need for reliable infrastructure, making PSC poles a practical choice for many growers.”

Javeed says climate variability is an important factor. “We are seeing more unpredictable hail, snow, and wind events. PSC poles can withstand these conditions, supporting trellis systems and netting that protect crops and stabilize trees,” he explains.

According to him, these systems have also helped to maintain consistent production. “By enabling protective netting and supporting heavier fruit loads, growers can improve both quality and yield, and in some cases extend the productive lifespan of their orchards,” Javeed says.

He emphasizes, “It is not just about supplying infrastructure. Every pole is part of a complete solution, and no two solutions are the same. We work with growers to design systems adapted to each farm’s terrain and weather conditions.”

Fruit Master Agro Fresh produces PSC poles in sizes ranging from 7×8 cm to 10×12 cm, with an annual capacity of around two million linear metres. Javeed shares, “Our capacity expansion plans over the next three years will support us in meeting domestic and export demand. Currently, Fruit Master exports to Nepal and Gulf countries, and will be looking to further international opportunities at Fruit Logistica Asia this September.”

“PSC poles are also being trialled in a range of applications beyond fruit orchards, including vineyards, fencing systems, net-covered saffron fields and solar-assisted agriculture, including the emerging agri-voltaic concept, where solar panels are mounted on poles to generate energy while crops grow underneath,” he adds.

Javeed believes PSC poles might become a part of a bigger shift in Indian agriculture towards more resilient infrastructure. “While the benefits depend on crop type and management practices, the principle is the same: a strong, durable support system can help farmers protect their investment and keep producing, season after season,” he concludes.

Fruit Master will be exhibiting at Asia Fruit Logistica in September. You can find them in Hall 5B, booth 5G27.
