Ukraine imported 123,140 tons of potatoes in January–October 2025, an increase of 5.1 times compared with the same period in 2024, according to a report from the State Customs Service cited by Interfax Ukraine. In value terms, imports rose 4.8 times to US$66.086 million, up from US$13.69 million a year earlier.
Poland accounted for 36.9 per cent of the import value, followed by Egypt with 13.7 per cent and the Netherlands with 11.6 per cent.
Potato exports decreased 13.4 per cent year on year to 2,140 tons. However, export revenue increased 2.4 per cent to US$521,000. Moldova was the main destination, taking 58.5 per cent of outbound shipments, followed by Azerbaijan with 38.6 per cent and Singapore with 0.6 per cent.
In October 2025, monthly potato imports fell sharply to 359 tons, compared with 4,090 tons in October 2024, a decline of 11.4 times. Exports in October increased 4.6 times to 269 tons.
Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture Taras Vysotskyi said in a podcast by the Center for Economic Strategies that the 2025 vegetable harvest is sufficient and larger than last year, adding that no deficit is expected. According to the Ukrainian News Agency, the potato harvest is higher than the previous season, with falling domestic prices, although imported potatoes remain cheaper.
This reporting period highlights the gap between domestic market conditions and import pricing, with Ukraine continuing to bring in large volumes despite higher local production.
