Post-ripening fruit thinning is labor-intensive, with the most demanding orchards requiring up to 200 hours of labor per hectare. Additionally, chemical thinning incurs significant costs for product procurement and contributes to a larger environmental footprint during harvest.

The Florix series by Rinieri includes three models of flower thinning machines that serve as an alternative to chemical or manual thinning methods. “These machines offer growers a more sustainable and potentially cost-efficient approach,” says Fabrizio Bresciani, Rinieri’s communications manager.

Depending on the model, three column heights are available: 200, 250, and 300 centimeters for eight, ten, and twelve thinning units.

“Compared to other solutions on the market, the Florix machines offer notably better contouring for canopies that need thinning,” Bresciani continues. This is partly due to the independent arms equipped with mechanical springs, which allow each unit to adapt more effectively to the shape and direction of the branches. Additionally, a joystick enables separate control of the rotation speeds of the upper and lower thinning units thanks to two electro-hydraulic circuits, which allow for different levels of thinning. This approach is especially recommended given the varying effects of frost on plants’ vertical development.

“At last, the Plus version boasts a unique articulation in the center of the frame that enables the upper part to tilt towards the top of the plants. This feature enhances the machine’s adaptability to the geometry of the orchard,” Bresciani concludes. Considering the labor savings, Florix should be seen as an investment that can be amortized within a few weeks. Or days, if we’re discussing the realm of professional contracting.”
