Iraq targets 1.5 million tons in agricultural exports for 2025

The Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture reported that agricultural exports reached 300,000 tons in the initial four months of 2025. Mahdi Al-Jubouri, the Undersecretary of the Agricultural Ministry, conveyed to the state-run news agency (INA) that exports are projected to surpass 1.5 million tons within the year.

Al-Jubouri noted the role of contemporary irrigation techniques and agricultural practices in boosting production, resulting in a surplus of over 1.5 million tons exported in 2024. Dates were the leading export, constituting approximately 650,000 tons, followed by vegetables at over 308,000 tons.

The Ministry of Agriculture is pursuing market expansion in the European Union by organizing exhibitions and facilitating meetings with EU embassies in Iraq. Iraqi crops are commonly exported to Gulf countries, Jordan, and the EU.
