Cambodia begins fresh durian exports to China

Cambodia has commenced the export of its fresh durians, marking the first shipment of over 17 tons to China. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) confirmed this advancement, with the consignment expected to reach China in a nine-day timeframe. Subsequent shipments are planned, with three more containers prepared for next week’s export.

This export event was executed by HF Fruit Company Limited, in liaison with a Chinese partner, following the company’s inauguration on May 1, 2025, in Tbong Khmum province. The General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) previously conducted assessments to ensure that Cambodian durians met the required phytosanitary and safety standards. Consequently, 112 farms and 30 packaging facilities secured registration.

HF Fruit Company Limited aims to continue its export of tens of tons of durians, purchasing based on size and quality, and compensating farmers at current market rates. Khim Finan, MAFF spokesman, indicated, “This is another success for Cambodia’s fresh fruit exports to a high-potential market,” also pointing to collaboration between governments and private sectors.

Cambodia documents over 11,000 hectares of durian cultivation, with significant yields noted annually. In Tbong Khmum province, 950 hectares are dedicated to durian plantations. Director of the Tbong Khmum Provincial Department of Agriculture, Heng Pisith, noted the shift from traditional exports to Thailand and Vietnam, to including China as a key market.
