Bringing Vietnam’s lychee into the global spotlight

As the 2025 lychee season opens, Dragonberry Produce has launched its certified lychee export program in partnership with Bac Giang province. This milestone reflects a long-term commitment to strengthening Vietnam–U.S. agricultural ties through sustainable and scalable supply chains.

Dragonberry aims to significantly increase Vietnam’s U.S. lychee footprint by the end of 2025.

Since early 2024, the company has partnered with the Bac Giang People’s Committee, the Department of Agriculture, and the Plant Protection Sub-Department to create a structured lychee export framework in the country.

Key initiatives include:

  • Over 100 hectares of lychee orchards are enrolled across core growing zones, supported by capacity building for local farmers.
  • Field monitoring and technical support to uphold export standards and agricultural best practices.
  • Multiple packing facilities and farms trained and certified under Global G.A.P. GFS v6 standards, ensuring full compliance for international trade.
  • Logistics coordination from harvest to cold-chain post-harvest handling, in collaboration with licensed partners and leading shipping providers.

Dragonberry has collaborated closely with APHIS (U.S. Department of Agriculture) and Vietnam’s PPD to secure Production Unit Codes (PUC) and Packing House Codes (PHC), clearing the path for direct U.S. entry. Initial shipments are scheduled for June 2025, timed for peak freshness and market demand.

Beyond exports, other company initiatives include:

  • Engaging stakeholders to support the recognition of the Hanoi Irradiation Center as an official treatment facility.
  • Research partnerships are underway with academic institutions to develop lychee varieties better suited for extended shelf life and long-distance transport.
  • Technology pilots beginning in late 2025, focusing on smart post-harvest packaging and digital traceability tools.

The company’s engagement in Bac Giang has already fostered improvements in farming practices, technical compliance, and community trust — strengthening the region’s agricultural resilience and global competitiveness.

“This is more than exporting fruit,” says Amy Nguyen, president of Dragonberry Produce. “It’s about building resilient supply chains, creating value for communities, and delivering excellence to customers.”
